Day 1800. Smoking, Uni and illness.

Update

I left home 4 years 11 months and 5 days ago - almost 5 years! I am still wondering aimlessly on holiday.

Five years ago I was preparing to sail to Iceland via the Faroes. Four years ago I was chilling for a month in serene Laos. Three years ago I was preparing to leave Taiwan and head back to the Philippines. Two years ago I had just moved to Trang in Thailand. One year ago I had just moved to Phuket.

Today, I am still in Phuket. Conclusion? Time to GTF outta here.

Some pics

Drunk in my local with a Czech lad. No idea where our tops are? This pic looks a bit too camp for my liking.

The last time I took a pic like this was in the lofty mountains of southern Taiwan. This pic is near Nai Thon beach near Phuket airport.

When I had my bad motorbike accident last year, here's an idea of how the helmet saved me. Imagine having that impact across the top of your skull?

My bike at Nai Yang beach in the Northwest of Phuket.

Nice weather, max 34 min 26.

This is Thailand's Southern Meteorological Center near the airport. I drove up here to see the airport since I'd never seen it. While I was there I saw two planes land! TWO? Yes, two in 10 minutes. In Trang I never saw one plane in a whole year. That's not the only difference between Trang and Phuket.

This is the posh British International School. Costs a fortune to send your kids there but the teachers are well paid. Nice building. I think my school provides a cheaper 'international' option at about one third of the price!

On an extensive bike ride I passed Phuket mining museum. Again, nice building.

The Thai staff at my school invited me for a BBQ. I went, stayed sober and sung a karaoke song. It was Goong's birthday. Canny laugh.

Smoking

I quit smoking on Sunday 24th April. However, I have failed twice in that 3 week period. I am now one week nicotine free but I have to stay off the beer. I fail when I drink. Next weekend is a 'stay off the lash' weekend. This is harder than it sounds on this alcoholic island.

Ill

I was off work again last week. I picked up something that made me sweat/shiver/poo/puke. I was in bed three days and finally arose 5kg lighter. I am now a paltry 64kg and as weak as a baby. I think the booze does not help in this matter but at least I had my first alcohol-free weekend since coming to Phuket (which is how I got to one week smoke free).

Uni

I have completed 75% of my online PGCE at Nottingham University. I have one more research project to go then I'm done. I'd like to finish this before my 6 week holiday on the 8th of July as I am planning a massive bike trip around the whole of Thailand. I am quite excited about this!

Armin

left for Angeles a few weeks ago. He is sadly missed. I have a day off tomorrow but I am going to crack on with my PGCE tonight and tomorrow so that I can enjoy 6 weeks of worry free bliss.

Date

I went on a date last night with Patti, 33 from Yala. She has lived on phuket for 14 years and works as a PR officer for a big hotel in Phuket Town. She was nice and she has a car which freaked me out somewhat! Don't know if we'll meet again though? We did enjoy the views from Tung Ka restaurant at the top of Khao Rang hill on the same night the Toon drew away at Chelsea.
